The Officers and Directors will help to guide the future of ISOC-NY. We need you to contribute your energy and ideas by participating in the upcoming election.

To that end, we will have a full Membership Meeting next Tuesday, Nov. 12th at 7pm to discuss the upcoming election. We will be voting to approve the Election Announcement and Call for Nominations, the Election Rules and Procedures, and the Election Calendar, all of which are available for your review at https://isoc-ny.org/wiki/Election_2024-2025.

The full Membership Meeting will also provide an opportunity for the Chapter to discuss its recent activities and for each committee to request new membership.

ISOC LIVEOn Thursday April 20 2023 at 7:30pm-8:30pm EDT (23:30-0 :30 UTC) the Accessibility NYC Meetup (A11yNYC) hosts a meetup ‘Creating Accessible iOS Apps: An Action Plan‘. Users spend the majority of their time on smartphones by using native apps, so it is very important that such apps be accessible. Dani Devesa Derksen-Staats, author of the ‘Developing Accessible iOS Apps‘, will give a primer on how to get started with accessibility features on Apple devices, including VoiceOver and Dynamic Type, and outline best practices.

The meetup will be webcast live via a partnership with the Internet Society New York Accessibility SIG.

ISOC LIVEOn Friday March 31 2023 from 12:00-15:00 EDT (16:00-19:00 UTC) ICANN’s North America At-Large Regional Organization (NARALO) and the Internet Society New York Chapter (ISOC-NY) will host NARALO/ISOC-NY Universal Acceptance Day at the Chrysler Building in NYC.

This event is part of UA Day, rallying local, regional, and global communities and organizations to spread Universal Acceptance (UA) awareness and to encourage UA adoption with key stakeholders. The day will consist of UA training, awareness, and strategy sessions held by the Universal Acceptance Steering Group (UASG), ICANN, global partners, and regional and local organizations.

UA is a technical requirement that ensures all valid domain names and email addresses, regardless of script, language, or character length, can be equally used by all Internet-enabled applications, devices, and systems.
