VIDEO: #DanGeer keynote – #Cybersecurity as Realpolitik – at #BlackHat USA 2014

On August 6 2014, Dan Geer gave a keynote speech – Cybersecurity as Realpolitik at the Black Hat USA 2014 conference. In his talk Geer, who is currently the CISO for In-Q-Tel, a venture capital firm that supports the U.S. intelligence community, gave a series of policy proposals on aspects of cybersecurity, including reporting, liability, vulnerability, resiliency, defense, as well as wider issues such as net neutrality, the right to be forgotten, Internet voting, and code abandonment. Summary:

Power exists to be used. Some wish for cyber safety, which they will not get. Others wish for cyber order, which they will not get. Some have the eye to discern cyber policies that are “the least worst thing;” may they fill the vacuum of wishful thinking.
