INET Beirut – Oct 14 2010 @InternetSociety Regional Conference
Monday 4th October 2010 – Under the patronage of his Excellency Telecom Minister Charbel Nahas, the Internet Society Lebanon Chapter is organizing the first Internet Society INET conference in Lebanon and the region. This regional one-day conference, sponsored by IDM, is scheduled to take place on Thursday 14th October at the Grand Habtoor Hotel. The event will bring together members of the local and regional Internet community, technology experts, policy makers and business leaders to discuss key internet related opportunities and challenges for the Lebanese economy.
This initiative forms part of a series of worldwide regional events the Internet Society holds to give stakeholders, local business and government organizations the opportunity to meet, debate and discuss the technologies and policies that are defining the future of the Internet. The Internet Society Lebanon chapter is investing great effort to reposition Lebanon on the Global map and to establish its role in defining the rules and regulations for the Internet industry in Lebanon.
The INET conference will host selected industry experts who will focus on three key topics.
- Doing Business in the Social Networking Era
- Content Delivery Networks (CDN)
- Child Safety on the Internet
In addition to his participation in the conference, and presentation on integrating rules and regulations in developing countries, Internet expert Randy Bush will deliver Lebanon’s first technical training session on routing security. Bush has been heavily involved in transferring Internet technologies to developing economies for over 20 years and is currently the main network operator at Internet Initiative Japan, the first commercial ISP in Japan.
Nabil Boukhaled – Internet Society Lebanon Chapter President and .LB domain administrator since 1993 said: “Lebanon is endowed with a vibrant, creative, multilingual and technology -savvy community and labour force. The Internet Society Lebanon Chapter was established to capitalize on these Lebanese assets and join forces with local Internet stakeholders to advance the Internet in Lebanon. Our objective is to create a fertile and competitive environment that will enable Internet industries and technologies to grow and flourish. We believe that Lebanon has a real and tangible potential to develop into a technology hub that will drive the creation of thousands of new jobs every year.” Bou Khaled further added; “We encourage key Internet industry stakeholders to join us at the INET 2010 Beirut;. The Internet is our future, so the event is an opportunity for attendees to gain a valuable insight into emerging Internet technologies and standards, governance, social implications and future direction.”
