User Centric Internet

The User Centric Internet (UCI) is a new ISOC Public Policy program designed to reassert, in debates and discussions related to the future of the Internet, the importance of the design values and fundamental principles that have underpinned the Internet’s success.

The Internet Society believes that principles such as openness, user choice and control, edge based intelligence, etc., are central to a thriving Internet and, we believe, will be so for the foreseeable future. In focusing on user-centricity the Internet Society is seeking to ensure that the primacy of the user is not forgotten when it comes to new architectures, commercial offerings and policy making.

The “Preserving the User Centric Internet” White Paper is the first of what we anticipate to be a set of papers exploring the various elements of the User Centric Internet. It is purposely board and introductory in its scope. The White Paper asks a range of important questions, and points to a number of factors central to UCI that need to be taken into account in shaping the future Internet. 1. Very pleased to see this “User Centric Internet” effort on the part of the ISOC New York chapter.

Certainly this is an important area, particularly important now when large media interests appear determined to capture and limit Internet access and Internet traffic to their own selfish commercial interests.

I do not want a gated Internet.
I think I will rephrase that.
I’ll be damned if I will tolerate a gated Internet.

Kudos to the ISOC New York Chapter. Hope you don’t mind me as a remote member.

  2. Thankyou Gene, for the kudos, and you are very welcome.

This initiative did not originate here – it comes from global ISOC – but it’s certainly worthy of support.
