Since less than our maximum complement of 15 directors have been nominated, and none of the offices are being contested, voting is a formality. However members are asked to give their approval:

1) to lend necessary legitimacy to the Board and Officers.

2) to indicate their confidence in same.

I was a student political leader for restoration of democracy in Pakistan, and was a political prisoner under dictator General Zia, while a student at the University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore, Pakistan. I am a published writer, from the Wall Street Journal to the Pakistan Times and am frequently on global TV and radio shows, including CNN, Fox News, GEO.TV, ExpressTV, WWRL, KMNY, from NY to Los Angeles, and from the USA to Asia.

I have been active in the Wikimedia and Free Culture movements for the

last several of years, and am currently president of the Wikimedia NYC

chapter.  I have been recently working with ISOC-NY on the NYCwiki

project, and am a big supporter of the Open Internet that ISOC and

ISOC-NY stand for.  I have also been active in reaching out to the
+
broader local community supporting the Open Internet, and initiated

the Free Culture Alliance NYC meetings of which ISOC-NY has been an

I'm entering my second year at Columbia Law School, where I serve on the

Executive Board of the Society for Law, Science and Technology (SLST).

Professionally, I am interested in the intersection of human rights,

This summer, I am working as a policy and advocacy associate with the

Centre for Internet and Society in Bangalore, India, where in addition

to analyzing intellectual property rights issues implicated in

will join the New York City Bar Association's Information Technology Law

David Solomonoff is the current President of ISOC-NY and has served from January 2005. He was the Assistant Secretary in 2004 and joined ISOC-NY in 2003.

At the time he joined ISOC-NY, the Chapter had a website, mailing list and monthly meetings but was not active in any other way.
+
 
+
He has organized events and written successful grant applications for the Chapter. Events in 2010 included Evan Moglen's  “Freedom in the Cloud: Software Freedom, Privacy and Security for Web 2.0 and Cloud Computing” and Professor Jinyang Li's presentation about her Kaleidoscope anti-censorship software.
+

In April of this year he received a Fellowship from global ISOC to attend the INET-DC conference and the Sphere workshops on Chapter development in Washington DC.
+
 
+
He will speak to the Manhattan Libertarian Party on August 9th about "Taking Back the Edge: Freedom and the Internet Model".
+
 
+
Future plans for ISOC-NY include:

* Events featuring companies and nonprofits building broadband infrastructure for underserved areas

* Meetings with political candidates to find out about their positions on issues of concern to ISOC-NY
