‘State of the Net’ speaker list published

WASHINGTON, Jan. 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — On Wednesday, January 27, 2010, the Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory Committee, a Washington, D.C.-based organization working to educate the Congress and the public about important Internet-related policy issues, will hold its sixth annual State of the Net Conference. The conference is announcing several new names to its agenda including former Wyoming Governor Jim Geringer; White House Deputy Chief Technology Officer Andrew McLaughlin; White House Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra; Special Advisor for Technology to Assistant Attorney General Christine Varney Roberta Katz; Ambassador Philip Verveer; and professor of law at the University of Michigan Law School Susan Crawford, who will moderate a one-on-one debate on the economic impact of net neutrality on innovation and investment.


The 2010 conference will feature several senior government officials and leaders, including a keynote discussion on the future of broadband with Brian L. Roberts, Chairman and CEO of Comcast Corporation. The conversation with Mr. Roberts will be moderated by Alan Murray, Deputy Managing Editor of the Wall Street Journal. The luncheon keynote speaker will including incoming White House Cybersecurity Coordinator Howard Schmidt in his first public remarks. The conference will also feature remarks by Congressman Rick Boucher (D-VA) and Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and sessions on the top-tier technology policy issues including broadband deployment, antitrust, cybersecurity, copyright strikes, e-Gov, privacy and cloud computing to name a few.

The conference will also feature a panel, “Cyberwar: Is Congress Preparing for the Common Defense?,” looking at how Congress should be approaching and addressing the cyber security situation as well as preparing for the possibility of cyberwar. The panel includes Shane Harris, Correspondent, National Journal; Greg Nojeim, Senior Counsel at the Center for Democracy & Technology; Jim Lewis, Director and Senior Fellow, Technology and Public Policy Program, Center for Strategic and International Studies; and moderator Lance J.
